Friedrichshafen
Okay, another year another Friedrichshafen, we went in 2023 and we’re going again in 2025. Most people fly to Zurich, get a train from the airport to Romanshorn, then a ferry across to Friedrichshafen, but we’re not most people, we are going the Wednesday before, (24th) spending 2 nights in Cologne, then on the Friday we travel down to Friedrichshafen nice and ready for the show on the Saturday. The show itself is quite an event and gives you the chance to meet up with people you’ve spoken to on the radio and meet suppliers to discuss your needs. There’s also catering, shirt printing and a massive flea market which takes ages to work your way around, as I live in the UK and would have to get everything packed in my case I don’t bother going in there.
49th International Amateur Radio Exhibition, that should tell you how successful this show really is, you don’t achieve 49 shows without knowing what you are doing and these guys really do. We go not just for the show but just to spend time in a great place with an Amateur Radio show as a bonus. This year I will be doing three video’s, one for Amateurlogic.Tv, one for my own YouTube channel and a private one for family. So where am I staying? I’m staying at a hotel around a three minute walk from the Harbour (Hafen) and boy do they do a lovely breakfast. Anyway, enough said about our hotel, Friedrichshafen lies to the side of Lake Constance (Bodensee) and if you look across you will see bordering countries like Austria and Switzerland and boy what a great view it is too.
Our Last Visit in 2023

As for the Ham Radio Show itself, it’s a worthwhile event with lots of vendors there like, Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood, Flex and BHI. Also there you have Organisations like RSGB, ARRL, DARC and many other National Radio Clubs. There is a massive indoor flea market (silly terminology) and I suppose you could get absolutely anything there. If you’ve never been before I would seriously recommend a visit. Held late June every year it’s a great event that I cannot praise enough.
