49th International Amateur Radio Exhibition, that should tell you how successful this show really is, you don’t achieve 49 shows without knowing what you are doing and these guys really do.We go not just for the show but just to spend time in a great place with an Amateur Radio show as a bonus. This year I will be doing three video’s, one for Amateurlogic.Tv, one for my own YouTube channel and a private one for family. So where am I staying?I’m staying at a hotel around a three minute walk from the Harbour (Hafen) and boy do they do a lovely breakfast.Anyway, enough said about our hotel, Friedrichshafen lies to the side of Lake Constance (Bodensee) and if you look across you will see bordering countries like Austria and Switzerland and boy what a great view it is too.
Our Last Visit in 2023

As for the Ham Radio Show itself, it’s a worthwhile event with lots of vendors there like, Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood, Flex and BHI.Also there you have Organisations like RSGB, ARRL, DARC and many other National Radio Clubs. There is a massive indoor flea market (silly terminology) and I suppose you could get absolutely anything there. If you’ve never been before I would seriously recommend a visit. Held late June every year it’s a great event that I cannot praise enough.
Well that didn’t turn out right did it, only spent from 10.15am until 3.35 at the show this year, it was just too hot for us, it was bad enough in 2023 but this year Germany beat their highest temperature four days running (three or four days anyway). Was it a good show? Yes it was, lots of International societies in attendance, Two of the main vendors there (Icom and Yaesu) but I didn’t see Kenwood, were they there, who knows?
If you decide to go to Friedrichshafen you’ll enjoy it believe me, however do not travel as we did.We travelled from St Pancras to Brussels then Brussels on to Cologne and that was great, hot but great, however you cannot change the weather. We stayed 2 nights in Cologne in a roasting hotel, then on the Friday we travelled down to Friedrichshafen, anyway the upshot of it all there and back DB (Deutsche Bahn) cancelled 3 of our trains and we sat on a platform in ULM for five and a half hours, then they decided to change platform. It was horrendous and even as I type this (9th August 2026) we’re still not over it completely. Most people that travel from the UK catch a plane to Zurich, then get a train to Romanshorn then a ferry across Lake Constance (Bodensee).Would I go again? Love the show, Love Friedrichshafen but no, Actually I would go to Friedrichshafen but never again in June, we went in June 2023 and it was hot then, so no I cannot do that again and certainly not by train, you just cannot trust Deutsche Bahn.
