Shortwave Radio Listening
So, What is Shortwave Listening? Shortwave Listening is listening to News, Sport, Entertainment, general information from all over the world and if you like, in many different languages too. Is it a hobby or just something you like to do? I must admit I love to listen to the radio whenever I can but it’s not my hobby, Amateur radio is my hobby itself but I guess that Shortwave Listening just merges into that for me, but for you it might be a case of, “Think I’ll put the radio on for a while and listen to Voice of America” or something else then put the radio away for a few weeks, “just like a casual listener”
What Shortwave radio can I buy? Okay, you can buy very cheap radio’s in supermarkets here in the UK and there is an old saying which is, “You get what you pay for” believe me in Shortwave Radio’s this is perfectly true and those £10 supermarket radio’s I’d leave well alone. Radio dealers like ML&S, Waters and Stanton, Nevada these are the places to look. The dearer radio’s incorporate direct entry, which means, if you already know a certain frequency you can input directly via the keys on the front and head straight there
Here is a video by Dave Casler KE0OG all about Shortwave Radio, with over 500k hits I’d say Shortwave Radio has an active following, certainly getting people interested that’s for sure. Shortwave Radio can be so relaxing to listen to as well as keeping the mind occupied. There are many good radio’s out there like Sangean, Tecsun, Eton. The one I use personally is the Tecsun H-501X (pictured above Right) it is available from Waters and Stanton and Nevada I will admit it is a very high end radio in features and price but all in all well worth the money
